Our Chicagoland UYF Conference recently implemented some changes to the age/weight levels of football we can fill this year. These changes were made to increase player safety and to ensure all of our participants have the best youth football experience possible. Our teams will now consist of players with just a two-year age span, and the older/lighter player has been eliminated. For example, the 10U team will be made up of only 9 and 10 year olds, with a maximum weight limit of 125 pounds, and any 9 or 10 year old over this weight limit will be a striper.
Because of these changes, some levels will fill up very quickly, and we may have to close registration earlier than usual. Case in point, last year we had over twenty 12 year olds in the program. If all of these 12 year olds return, our 13U team would be pretty much be filled However, if you add in all of the new players that are registering, we can clearly foresee that any veteran players that wait to the last minute to join might end up without a spot.
With this in mind, I am highly encouraging all of last year's families to register your veteran football players as soon as possible. Preferably before the end of this month. By registering them now, rather than waiting and registering right before the season starts, not only will you ensure your child has a spot on one of our teams, but you will also save $60 on the registration fee if you sign up your player by April 30th. Additionally, by registering your child early, it will help us determine which levels we will be filling this season, and in turn, assist us with selecting head coaches for these teams.
Registration can be done either online at opyf.com or in-person on Saturday, April 14th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Oriole Park field house. I also want to add that the registration fee does not need to be paid in full at this time. So really there is no reason not to sign up your child now, to get the early registration fee and to make sure they will have a team to play on at Oriole Park.
Looking forward to another great season of Falcon football and cheer!
